Kids in Transition to School (KITS®) is an evidence-based school readiness program that helps young children and their caregivers make a successful transition into kindergarten. KITS builds the social-emotional, self-regulation, and early literacy skills children need to thrive in school, while supporting families during this important milestone.

Why Kindergarten Readiness Matters

The transition to kindergarten is a critical moment in a child’s development. KITS is designed to ensure children start school confident, prepared, and ready to learn.

Reach New Heights

Children who have positive social-emotional skills in kindergarten are more likely to finish high school, go to college, and be employed as adults.

Literacy

Better literacy skills in kindergarten increase the likelihood that children will be reading at grade level by third grade.

Achievement

Greater parent involvement in kindergarten leads to better achievement for the child.

Who KITS Serves

KITS is designed for all children entering kindergarten, and it is especially beneficial for children in foster care, children with developmental or behavioral challenges, and children from families experiencing economic stress. The program is also offered broadly through schools and community partners.
